Before baby number 2 arrived we knew we wanted to go on a trip fairly early on. We had such a great experience traveling when Hannah was 3 months that we knew there was almost no easier time than when they sleep the day away and need nothing more than the odd feeding and lots of snuggles. Knowing the births and babies can be unpredictable, though, we waited until after we had settled in as a family of 4 to decide on the details of our trip. Thankfully, were blessed with a healthy and VERY happy baby, an uneventful birth and no issues with feeding or colic. It only took a few weeks before we knew that we wanted to plan a trip sooner rather than later.
After a brutally cold winter and having to avoid sunny destinations because of Zika, my trip requirements were the following: beaches, and sun and sun and beaches :) We found a great seat sale to the south of France and loved the idea of combining beautiful beaches, french food and wine, and quaint port cities.
We settled on the last two weeks of June for a few reasons: 1) Nathan will have gotten his 2 month shots and 2) we love traveling during the shoulder season and we know prices (and crowds) increase significantly after July 1st.
We learned our lesson in Ireland when we switched accommodation too frequently and so we focused on choosing a few destinations to make our home base and to plan as little as possible so that we had time to relax and enjoy our surroundings. Hiking and swimming in Calanques National Park was an absolute highlight for us. We had an incredible experience Camping in Provence and Cote D'Azur and exploring the Hyeres area. Nice also won us over as an incredibly family friendly destination.
