JetSetting Baby

10 must have products for your littlest traveler

Whether you are expecting a baby and looking for registry ideas or looking for purchase a gift this holiday season for a jet setting baby in your life, here are some ideas of items that we have found to be super helpful as we navigated the first year with our little one both in the city and abroad.

1. Little Unicorn Muslin swaddles

I LOVE multi function items and I have used Little Unicorn muslin blankets as a nursing cover, swaddle, a light blanket for evening walks, to create shade in the stroller and as a place to lay baby down on at the park.  I particularly love how soft they are and that the patterns are beautiful, artistic and gender neutral.

2. Diaper Change Pad/Station

Another favorite item is the Skip Hop Pronto changing station – it holds a days worth of diapers, lots of wipes, some Ziploc bags and has a removeable change pad. We have had diaper changes in all kinds of crazy locations and it’s nice to know you always have a clean surface with you at all times.

3. Mountain Buggy Nano Stroller

We purchased this travel stroller just prior to our trip to Greece when our little one was 3 months old. We love that it collapses small enough to be placed in the overhead compartment of the plane, reclines, has a fairly large basket underneath, a 5 point harness and a large canopy to protect little ones from the elements.  It maneuvers easily, is super light (just 13 pounds), and as a bonus, you can use it with your car seat without having to purchase an adapter. Consider investing in the weather pack that has a sun shade and rain cover!
 4. Sound Machine

Small and portable, works on batteries or plugged in to the wall, this sound machine is a must have for sleep both at home and on the go. Bonus: because it isn’t marketed as a baby item it’s super affordable.

5. Baby safety/first aid kit

Putting together a little baby safety and first aid kit is essential and makes a great gift. Nail clippers, a thermometer and a nasal aspirator are must haves for me!

6. Hooded Towel

They’re cute and practical for home, pool and the beach, need I say more?

7. Structured Carrier

I can’t recommend a structured carrier enough. In fact, if you only buy ONE thing for your baby make it a structured carrier. At home it allows you to have your hands free to do housework or cook dinner and it makes navigating airports, going for hikes and exploring old cities a breeze while on vacation. We love our Tula but it’s important to test them out to make sure you find one that’s easy to put on, comfortable and supportive.

8. Guzzie and Gus Perch Highchair

We opted to use this as our primary high chair and LOVE that it only weighs 6 pounds, folds down flat (and includes a travel bag), and is machine washable. As highchairs go, it’s affordable and takes up very little space both at home and in your luggage!

9. Reuseable Swim Diaper

We swam a LOT in the first year both on vacation and at our local pools and splashpads.  We found reusable swim diapers to be super convenient, good for the environment and significantly cheaper in the long run than buying disposables. They also come in so many cute patterns and colours.

10. Mimitens Booties

This Canadian made product is one of my faves for babywearing. These insulated booties never fall off, add an extra layer to little legs that hang outside of the carrier and are  perfect for cooler weather.
